Programs to be Included in the College

The following programs will be housed in the new college as academic departments. The timeline is still being refined and names for departments are under review, but we anticipate that the transition will be complete by Fall 2011.

Communication Disorders

Currently housed in the Department of Language, Reading and Exceptionalities in the Reich College of Education, the communication disorders program includes faculty in communication disorders and speech-language pathology. These faculty are responsible for the BS degree in communication disorders and the MA degree in Speech-language Pathology. The program is also home to the Communication Disorders Clinic.

Health, Leisure and Exercise Science

Currently a department in the College of Fine and Applied Arts, HLES programs comprise the fields of athletic training, exercise science, health promotion, physical education, and recreation management. Degrees offered include BS degrees in all of the fields and the MS degree in exercise science. The department is also home to the Human Performance Laboratory Complex.

Healthcare Management

Currently housed in the Department of Management in the Walker College of Business, the healthcare management program offers the BSBA in Healthcare Management.

Nursing

Currently a department in the College of Fine and Applied Arts, the nursing program offers the RN to BSN completion program to students at select sites across northwestern North Carolina. A prelicensure four-year BSN program is under development, with final approval expected next Fall.

Nutrition and Foodsystems Management

Currently housed in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences in the College of Fine and Applied Arts, the foods and nutrition program includes faculty in dietetics, nutrition, and foodsystems management. Degrees offered include the BS degree in foods and nutrition, which prepares students for the ADA internship, and the combined MA degree in family and consumer sciences (concentration in foods and nutrition) with Dietetic Internship, both of which are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education of the American Dietetic Association.

Social Work

Currently a department in the College of Arts and Sciences, the social work program offers the BSW and MSW degrees to students both on the main campus in Boone and at select sites across northwestern North Carolina.
